Jazz Festivals in Australia



Now, let us talk about Jazz Festivals in my neighboring country. Australia. Here are several jazz events which are held in this country.

Bellingen Jazz Festival

For 21 years the Bellingen jazz event has been a three day celebration. Central performer of the event were Australia’s Jazz, Manouche and Blues musicians. Paul Bulyani has the contribution to feature Manouche Gypsy swing program .

In August 19-21, 2011 there were many genres covered including the Slide Blues, Western Swing, Brazilian Choro, Gypsy Swing, Manouche and many more styles included in the broad Church Jazz.

Aside that the event will be the largest compared to previous Bellingen jazz event, there will be new marquee at the Butter Factory, new Cabaret Room layout at the Golf Club, Federal Hotel, Memorial Hall, Tavern, Bellingen Community Markets, The Uniting Church, St Margaret’s Church, The CWA Hall and many restaurants.



The Bennetts Lane , Melbourne

Bennets lane is an everyday jazz treat which is available in Melbourne. The exact address is 25 Bennetts Lane, Melbourne (Off Little Lonsdale St. Between Russel & Exhibition Streets).

It is open every night from 8:30. Normally gigs start at 9:00pm on weekends. Online tickets are available for some gigs but ticketbox are open until 7:30 pm on the day of the gig.



The Manly , Sydney

Manly jazz is an annual event in Sydney Australia which is held every October. Previously it featured over 60 free performances on outdoo stages.

During past performances the artists involved were Doug Williams and The Mix Swing City Big Band, Dale Barlow Quintet, Bob Barnard, Bob Henderson and Company, Buddy Bolden Tribute Band, Benny’s Boys-Tribute to Benny Goodman, Navy Band, Geoff Bull All Stars, Dan Barnett Quintet Erroll Buddle Quintet, James Valentine Quartet, Andrew Speight Quintet, Carol Ralph and Blue Rythem All Stars, Harry Sutherland Quartet, Maryville Jazz Band, Neilsen Gough, The Translators.

The Merimbula , New South Wales

The Merimbula festival was started in 1981. It was an impromptu Sunday gig at Stan Delle Vergin’s home on the Fishpen of Merimbula . The Gipps Dance Band were in town and they were relaxing after a ball of previous night. Barry Pascoe is recognized as the founding fatehr and the driving force of the festival. He had played for the Abbey Jazz Band, playing trombone for many years. He was the one who insisted to put the programm all together on June 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th, 1981. The Moruya , New South Wales

The Moruya Jazz which started since 1997 is a progrm presented in and around pubs, clubs and streets of Moruya. This year amateur and professional jazz musicians will again participate on October 21-23, 2011. In 2010 it was estimated that aproximately 4000 spectators enjoyed the festival.

The Wagga Wagga Jazz Festival, Wagga Wagga

The Waga Waga Jazz event has started since 1995. This year the event will takes place on September 9 -11th, 2011. The event is organizedd by the Waga Waga Jazz Inc, a non profit organization. It officially uses the name Waga Waga Jazz Festival in 2006.

The York Jazz Festival, York, Western Australia



The Melbourne international

The Melbourne international jazz event have just ended. It was on June 4th -13th, 2011. It was first held in 1998,

Wangaratta Festival of Jazz, Victoria , is another jazz event will be held on October 28-31, 2011. The 21 years old event which has been organized voluntarily by local committee is now growing stronger than it has ever been.
